Xmorph is an excellent image morphing program for the X Window System. You can find out more about the program and its creator by reading the Creative Linux interview.

Preparation

The Xmorph web site has the software and data needed to run Xmorph and to go through this tutorial.

Instructions for compiling and installing Xmorph are included with the Xmorph source code.

From the Xmorph mjg-alien directory, download these files:

  • mjg-head-440x450.tga
  • alien-head-440x450.tga
  • mjg-head.msh
  • alien-head.msh

Starting Xmorph

Xmorph will accept a number of command line options.

Here are some command line options accepted by Xmorph:

  • -start SRC_IMG_FILE: use SRC_IMG_FILE as start image
  • -finish DST_IMG_FILE: use DST_IMG_FILE as final image
  • -src SRC_MESH_FILE: use SRC_MESH_FILE as start mesh
  • -dst DST_MESH_FILE: use DST_MESH_FILE as final mesh
  • -help: list some command line options

Here are some command line options provided via the X toolkit:

  • -display DISPLAY: set X server display.
  • -geometry WxH+X+Y: set render window initial size and position.
  • -iconic: start windows iconified.
  • -sync: enable synchronous client/server transactions.

Enter this command:

  • xmorph

The Xmorph main window will appear.

The "Help" menu provides detailed tips on how to use Xmorph.
